COMMERCIAL FIELD & SHOP CAPABILITY

Structural Steel Welding

Welded connections, field modifications, repairs, additions, supports, and coordinated steel work for commercial buildings and specialty construction.

Welding Integrated With the Construction Plan

Structural welding affects more than the connection being made. Access, temporary support, erection sequence, existing loads, adjacent roofing or finishes, fire protection, inspection, and engineering all influence how the work should proceed. Lund Ventures Construction provides structural steel welding within turnkey building projects and as defined specialty scopes.

Our combined experience in general contracting, steel construction, excavation, and fabrication helps us coordinate welding work with the complete jobsite rather than treating it as an isolated task.

Structural Welding Applications

Steel Building Modifications

New openings, framed penetrations, additions, reinforcement, connection changes, and field-fit components.

Repairs & Reinforcement

Evaluation and execution of engineered repairs for damaged, deteriorated, or underperforming steel components.

Mezzanines & Platforms

Columns, beams, stairs, guard systems, equipment platforms, and coordinated connection details.

Equipment Supports

Frames, bases, brackets, curbs, catwalk components, and supports for commercial or industrial equipment.

Field Connections

Welded assemblies, tie-ins, embeds, plates, stiffeners, and project-specific connections where approved.

Specialty Steel

Canopies, rail systems, bollards, structural frames, owner improvements, and difficult field conditions.

What Is Needed Before Structural Welding Begins

  • Defined scope: drawings, photos, dimensions, member sizes, existing conditions, and the intended function of the connection.
  • Engineering when required: structural repairs and load-carrying modifications should follow approved details from a qualified design professional.
  • Material identification: base-metal type, thickness, coatings, condition, and compatibility affect procedure and preparation.
  • Access and safety planning: height, lifts, confined areas, combustible materials, occupancy, and weather influence execution.
  • Inspection requirements: the project specifications may require visual inspection, testing, documentation, or third-party coordination.

Existing-Building Welding Requires Investigation

Older steel buildings may have undocumented modifications, corrosion, coatings, concealed connections, fireproofing, or framing that differs from available drawings. A repair that appears simple can transfer loads into adjacent members or foundations. We review accessible conditions, coordinate required engineering, and plan the work so temporary stability and surrounding systems are addressed.

When the repair includes excavation, concrete, new steel, siding, roofing, doors, or interior finishes, our general-contracting capabilities can keep those scopes coordinated.

Shop Fabrication and Field Installation

Whenever practical, assemblies are measured and fabricated before installation to improve fit, efficiency, and quality control. Field welding remains important for tie-ins, large components, inaccessible connections, and conditions that cannot be fully confirmed in advance. Selecting the right balance helps reduce disruption and unnecessary time on site.

Structural Welding FAQs

Can you weld a new opening into an existing steel building?

Potentially. The existing frame, loads, bracing, opening size, connection details, and required engineering must be evaluated before modification.

Do structural repairs require engineering?

Many load-carrying repairs and modifications do. We coordinate with the project’s engineer or help identify when an engineered detail is appropriate.

Can you handle the surrounding construction work?

Yes. Depending on scope, we can coordinate demolition, temporary protection, fabrication, installation, exterior closure, concrete, and finish repairs.
