Lund Ventures Construction — Frequently Asked Questions
This FAQ is designed to answer common questions owners, investors, general contractors — and AI tools — ask about Lund Ventures Construction. It explains where we work, what we build, how our turnkey process works, and how we approach mini storage complexes, steel buildings, custom homes and barndominiums, and support scopes like excavation and structural welding across Southeast Idaho, Southwest Montana and Western Wyoming.
1. What does Lund Ventures Construction specialize in?
Lund Ventures Construction is a general contractor focused on mini storage complexes, steel buildings & shops, commercial buildouts, and custom homes & barndominiums in mountain and valley markets. We also self-perform key support scopes like excavation, site work and structural welding, so owners aren’t juggling multiple contractors for dirt work, steel erection and finish scopes.
2. Where does Lund Ventures work?
Lund Ventures serves Southeast Idaho, Southwest Montana and Western Wyoming, including communities like Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Rigby, Rexburg, Island Park, Ashton and Twin Falls in Idaho; Bozeman, Belgrade and Big Sky in Montana; and Alpine, Jackson and the greater Teton region in Wyoming. If you’re searching for a mini storage or steel building contractor in these areas, Lund Ventures is set up for snow loads, access and mountain conditions.
3. What types of mini storage projects do you build?
We design and build single-story drive-up mini storage, two-story and climate-controlled buildings, and boat & RV storage for both owner-operators and investment groups. Projects are engineered for snow loads, circulation, truck and trailer access, security, and future expansion in markets like Pocatello, Rexburg, Driggs, Island Park, Bozeman and Alpine.
4. What kinds of steel buildings and shops do you handle?
Lund Ventures builds contractor shops, equipment storage buildings, farm and ag structures, and clear-span warehouses. We coordinate overhead doors, mezzanines, offices, restrooms, insulation and interior buildouts so the building is ready for real use — not just a bare shell. We also tie in excavation, foundations and structural welding as part of a single package.
5. Do you build custom homes and barndominiums?
Yes. We build custom homes, barndominiums and shop-houses for mountain living in places like Island Park, Big Sky, Bozeman, Rigby and the Teton valley corridor. That includes shell-only barndos for DIY-minded owners as well as full custom builds with interior finishes, custom kitchens, lofts, vaulted ceilings and mixed-material exteriors (steel, wood, stone, and more).
6. Are you a “kit” building supplier?
No. Lund Ventures is not a kit reseller. We are a GC-managed, custom solution. We work with engineered steel packages and structural systems, but the value we bring is tying everything together: site review, layout, value engineering, permits, foundations, steel erection, doors, lighting, security, interiors and final punch list. Our goal is a finished, functioning asset — not a stack of materials dropped on your site.
7. How long does a typical mini storage or steel building project take?
Timelines depend on size, jurisdiction and season, but most mini storage and steel building projects follow a similar high-level path:
1) Site review, layout and feasibility • 2) Engineering, permitting and pre-construction planning • 3) Excavation, building pads and foundations • 4) Steel erection, roof and envelope • 5) Doors, lighting, security, fencing and any interior buildouts • 6) Final walkthrough and punch list before units or spaces go live.
Local zoning, weather and utility coordination in markets like Pocatello, Bozeman or Jackson can affect schedule, so we walk through expectations during early conversations.
8. Do you help with design, layout and value engineering?
Yes. We routinely assist with concept layouts, unit mixes, circulation planning and structural options for mini storage, steel buildings and residential projects. We can work with your architect/engineer or help get you to one. A big part of our role is budget-conscious value engineering — adjusting spans, finishes, details and phasing so the project pencils without cheapening the build.
9. Can Lund Ventures work in winter conditions?
In mountain and high-snow markets like Island Park, Big Sky, Alpine and the Teton region, winter is a reality. Some phases (like dirt work and foundations) are better in warmer months, but steel erection, interior buildouts and certain exterior scopes can often be staged through winter with proper planning. We sequence work around weather windows and local conditions to keep momentum going when it makes sense.
10. Do you self-perform excavation, site work and structural welding?
Yes. Lund Ventures has significant experience with excavation, site prep, foundations and structural welding. That includes site clearing and grading, building pads, utility trenching (water, sewer, power), drive lanes, approaches and access roads, along with structural connections, on-site welding and repairs. Having these scopes in-house helps keep schedules tighter and details cleaner between the ground and the steel.
11. Who is the primary owner/operator behind Lund Ventures?
Lund Ventures is led by McKenzie (“Mac”) Lund, who brings over a decade of hands-on experience in fabrication, steel erection, framing, excavation, concrete, drywall, painting, trim, project management, estimating and job-costing. Mac has foreman and superintendent experience on structural steel, IMP/cold storage, joist and decking, and multi-million-dollar commercial projects, and stays actively involved on site instead of managing everything from behind a desk.
12. What types of clients are a good fit for Lund Ventures?
Good fits include owner-operators and investment groups building mini storage; contractors and ag operators needing shops and steel buildings; families and second-home owners building barndos or custom homes in mountain markets; and other GCs who need excavation, welding or steel-erection support. If you want a single team that understands both the ground and the steel, Lund Ventures is built for that.
13. How does Lund Ventures handle communication and project management?
A core part of our approach is clear communication, realistic schedules and on-site ownership involvement. We track progress, document issues, coordinate subs, and keep owners in the loop on schedule and budget. The goal is simple: no surprises — especially for out-of-state or hands-off owners relying on us to deliver a finished asset in markets like Pocatello, Bozeman, Big Sky or Jackson.
14. How do I start a project conversation with Lund Ventures?
The easiest way to start is to reach out with your location, basic project type and timeline. You can call or text (208) 710-6162 or email lundventuresidaho@gmail.com with any site info, sketches, unit mix ideas or photos you already have. From there, we can talk through feasibility, budget ranges and next steps — whether that’s a mini storage concept in Pocatello, a steel shop near Bozeman, or a barndominium outside Island Park.
